Chocola Farm

The Chocola Farm includes approximately 100 acres in Harbor Springs, Michigan, 10 miles from the Lake Michigan coast. The existing farm includes several important historic buildings on the gently rolling site, which have been restored and adapted to serve new functions on this modern farm. The farm has been planned and designed to serve as a broodmare/foaling operation. In addition, some of the Chocola’s cutting/show horses will be headquartered at the Michigan farm during the Summer season.

The new 14-stall barn is directly attached to the historic residence via a large, covered breezeway and porch. The barn includes 12-14’x14’ stalls; two 14’x24’ foaling stalls; office & lounge with windows into the foaling stalls; a large vet area with stocks and stainless-steel equipment; wash & grooming area; feed room; tack room; utility room with commercial washer & drier; storage room; and bathroom. A grain silo is used for bulk feed storage, and each stall is serviced by an automatic grain delivery system to minimize labor and waste. The interior finishes in this barn include stained concrete and paving brick aisles, large post & beam structural system, open view stall doors, historic light fixtures, vaulted ceiling with a pine finish, and other high-quality finishes and equipment.

An 80’x80’ indoor ring is attached to the new barn via a covered walkway and also utilizes identical finishes. A “Cutter-Critter” artificial training cow is mounted on a ceiling track at the east end of the arena and operable windows surround the entire arena. All new structures were designed to complement the historic structures; however, the finest modern materials and equipment were utilized to maximize safety and efficiency while minimizing maintenance.
