United States Postal Service (USPS) Bristow Post Office Water Intrusion Assessment
USPS engaged our team to prepare an investigative report based on existing water infiltration problems at the Main Post Office (MPO) Facility in Bristow, Oklahoma. The facility was initially constructed in 1934 in a Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival style. The structure consists of a first floor that takes up the entire building footprint of nearly 5,000 square feet, a partial basement (1,200 sq ft) and a partial second floor (800 sq ft) on the south side of the building. The building is along historic Route 66, still has the original wood windows, and maintains the original Spanish tile roofing along the parapet. We coordinated with the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), the USPS Historic Preservation Officer, and the City of Bristow on the proposed work and encouraged posting announcements regarding the work for the benefit of the community. The report provided an assessment of the existing water infiltration and identified causes of the water infiltration, spalling of the exterior coating, and interior plaster damage. The report also provided recommendations for repair for consideration by USPS, with a preliminary cost estimate. We anticipate construction starting 2021.
