Tulsa County Expo Square Driller Plaza & River Spirit Expo Entry

Originally built in 1966 and featuring the iconic 76-foot-tall Golden Driller, the Tulsa County Expo Square is located in the heart of Midtown Tulsa. Following the passage of the VisionTulsa citywide bond issue, Expo Square is expanding and renovating their current facility. GH2 is currently providing programming, planning, design and construction administration services for a new equine facility, event plaza, signage and event stage for the Fairgrounds.
Conceptual new entrance canopy for the River Spirit Expo. PDG is looking at options for the landscape design and a special plaza around the Tulsa Driller. GH2 to explore what the approach would be architecturally to do a new entry structure. One option would be a true Las Vegas casino version that extends all the way out to cover the drop off area. It is a delicate challenge in that the new entry must be sensitive to the Tulsa Driller—letting it stay the focal point—-and complement the architecture of the RSE and clearly distinguish itself as a new addition.  There would also be a large new digital entrance sign.
Presenting two options—-one for the pavement/plaza/circulation improvements that will have a budget of around $1,000,000 and an “ultimate” front entry makeover that would include not only the plaza but also the new covered entry structure and additional improvements.
