Tandy Family YMCA
The Tandy Family YMCA located in the heart of Tulsa and is unlike any facility in the region. The facility is the result of a collaboration between The YMCA of Greater Tulsa and The University of Oklahoma Schusterman Health Center to provide a state-of-the-art health and wellness center.
The transformation of the unique facility is a combination of a complete renovation of the existing 50,300-square-foot Thornton Family YMCA and a new 48,162-square-foot expansion. Within the facility, a sports physical therapy and medical clinic are seamlessly integrated, allowing both Y members and patients access to a unique blend of sports therapy, patient care, and health and wellness services.
The Client asked our architects to reflect the character of the facility in their design and to embrace and promote the core values of the YMCA (a healthy mind, body and spirit) while retaining the facility’s historical place as a landmark within the local community. With its thoughtful space planning, the abundance of natural light, dynamic views from large windows and natural palette of materials, the renovated YMCA fully fulfills that desire. In addition, the stone, concrete, steel, glass and wood used throughout the facility promote the connection between the outdoor and indoor environments. The result is a warm, inviting, multi-generational facility that engages the mind, body and spirit of everyone within the Tulsa community.
The center boasts an enviable outdoor splash park and indoor aquatic center with program elements for fitness, therapy, and fun. The building program also includes a complete fitness and wellness center, gymnasium, multi-story climbing wall, multiple studios, nutritional kitchen, child and family adventure spaces, and multi-use community rooms for the various programs of the YMCA and The University of Oklahoma. State-of-the-art technology is integrated throughout the whole facility.
