Kansas State University’s Equine Performance Testing Center
GH2 provided full design service, including programming, master planning and conceptual design through construction documents to Kansas State University’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for the proposed Equine Performance Testing Center (EPTC). The Center provides its equine patients with safe, year-round shelter from weather.
Located on Kansas State University’s campus within the Veterinary Health Center complex, the EPTC contains a 70’ x 120’ soft footing riding arena. In addition, the EPTC also contains an area of asphalt footing for longeing purposes as well as a trot-up runway for thorough lameness examination. Collectively, the soft footing arena and asphalt areas allow for a comprehensive examination that will involve both in-hand and under-saddle examinations. The indoor facility enables the equine clinicians to examine patients and teach veterinary students in a safe and effective environment.
Three holding stalls were included for outpatient purposes. An area for farrier services is a core need to horses that come to the EPTC for examination and diagnostic testing as well as a radiographic imaging area. In an effort to complete the mission of this land grant institution, the facility includes a consultation room which will provide an area for client services, student education and outreach activities involving the local and regional Kansas community.
